UX Online 8: Adding Sub-grids to a Custom Form for Improved Navigation N AVIGATION C HALLENGES – C REATING R ECORDS FROM AN A SSOCIATED V IEW Many clients face navigation challenges in the new Microsoft Dynamics 365 user interface when creating multiple new records from an Associated view because Dynamics 365 navigation returns the user to the main record instead of returning the user to the Associated View. For instance, when creating Session Facility records for a specific meeting, the user navigates to the Event Meeting Setup and selects Facility Setup from the Meeting Setup site map. This opens the Session Facility Setup Associated View, where the user can add a new Session Facility record. Once the user selects Save & Close in the new Session Facility record, Dynamics 365 navigation returns the user to the Event Meeting Setup – not to the Session Facility Setup Associated View. If the setup requires multiple Session Facility records, the user must go through the same navigation from the Meeting Setup form to create another new Session Facility record. This can become a very cumbersome process if the user must create multiple records at one time. Note: This repetitive navigation from the Meeting Setup is only required for creating new Session Facility records. If the user only needs to open an existing record from the Session Facility Associated View, the user can right click the record in the Associated View and select ‘Open in a New Window’. This will open the record in a new window. When the user clicks Save & Close, Dynamics 365 closes the window and returns the user to the Associated View. This workaround navigation only works when opening existing records in a new window. © 2017 Protech Associates, Inc. All Rights Reserved. August 4, 2017
