W ORKING WITH S UB -G RIDS IN UX O NLINE 8 F ORMS One option to relieve this navigation pain point and improve efficiency for creating multiple new records from an Associated View is to add new records from a sub-grid of the Associated View. In the example used above, creating a custom Event Meeting Setup form and adding the Session Facility Associated View as a sub-grid on the client’s custom form will reduce the number of clicks when creating several Session Facility records at one time, because the user can create new records directly from the sub-grid. This sub-grid example is similar to the base sub-grids for Registrations and Sessions on the Event Meeting Setup form. Selecting + from a Session Facility Associated View sub-grid on the Event Meeting Setup form opens a new Session Facility record. When the user clicks Save & Close, Dynamics 365 saves and closes the new record and returns the user to the Event Meeting Setup form. To create additional Session Facility records, the user can create them directly from the sub-grid on the Event Meeting Setup form. C USTOMIZING F ORMS Before making any changes to your custom forms, it is important to understand the general guidelines for customizing forms. Additional customization guidance can be found in the UX Online 8 Customization Guidance whitepaper. To perform these actions, the user must have the System Administrator or System Customizer security role. Always work within the organization’s unmanaged customization solution. If the entity to be customized is not in the unmanaged solution, the user will need to add the entity to the solution components. Guidance for adding solution components is located in the UX Online 8 Customization Guidance whitepaper referenced above. For base form customization, always make the change within the organization’s unmanaged, custom form. If there is no custom form for the particular entity, the user will need to create a new form. Working from the base form in the client-specific custom solution, use Save As on the form to save a copy of the form with a new name and then customize the newly created custom form. 2
